Book tip: “Mon Chéri and our demolished souls” – Verena Roßbacher

Presenter, journalist and author Christine Westermann presents her book recommendation here every two weeks. This time: “Mon Chéri and our demolished souls” by Verena Rossbacher. The novel is full of black humor, but also thoughtful and emotional.

I felt a little sick at the end of the book. Of the many Toffifees and Mon Chéris that I had mentally eaten. From Twix, who used to be called Raider, from Mars and muesli bars with chocolate banana. In the end, however, I was above all touched, a little wistful, I felt like laughing and crying. I’ve been thinking about life and dying and why lingerie is so overrated.

A woman like Charly Benz, who plays the main role in this novel, never wears one because a clever person once advised her: “Always wear nice underwear, you could get into an accident.” But having attractive underwear for every day of the year is too much for them.
