Werder Bremen still has to do without Leonardo Bittencourt. Bone edema must be treated.

Werder Bremen have had to do without Leonardo Bittencourt since the end of August. Now the club has announced a more precise diagnosis.

Leonardo Bittencourt made his last appearance on the fourth day of the game. Since then, i.e. since the end of August, Werder have had to do without him. So far, it has not been possible to clarify exactly where the pain that caused the problems came from.

Bittencourt is still out with bone edema

“We carried out a control investigation,” explained Clemens Fritz (quotes via picture). A diagnosis could be made. The head of the professional department: “Leo has developed bone edema on his ribs. That’s why he has this pain.” It is an accumulation of water in the bone.

Good on the one hand that it is now clear what and how Bittencourt has to be treated. Not good on the other hand is the certainty that Bremen will have to do without the midfielder for a little longer.

Apparently there is internal hope that the promoted team will be able to play again after the international break – i.e. at the beginning of October.

For the time being, however, this hope will remain. It will only be seen in a few days to what extent the treatments will work. It is also possible that he will be missing a little further into October.
