Bogenhausen: Man dies in apartment fire in high-rise – Munich

An 89-year-old man died in a fire in a high-rise building in Bogenhausen on Saturday morning. A witness from a neighboring house alerted the fire brigade shortly after 4:30 a.m., which arrived at the scene with several fire engines within a few minutes, a small side street between Oberföhringer Straße and Effnerstraße. The operation was made more difficult by the fact that the burning apartment was on the top floor of the 15-storey building.

Several respiratory protection teams had to go up the stairwell to fight the fire. Because in the completely burning apartment more and more embers flared up, the extinguishing work was complex. For an 89-year-old man, any help came too late, he died in the apartment fire.

The affected residents of the house were cared for during the operation in a large-capacity ambulance from the fire brigade. A local resident was treated by emergency services for smoke inhalation; A fire brigade who slightly injured his hand during the extinguishing work was taken to a Munich clinic. The amount of property damage cannot yet be quantified. In order to clarify the cause of the fire, the Munich police department has started the investigation.
