It sounds like a scene from a feature film: the wife of Argentine soccer player Eduardo Salvio accuses him of deliberately running over her. He didn’t show up for training.

Argentina’s Boca Juniors trained on Thursday in Buenos Aires without one of their regular players. Eduardo Salvio was absent. What initially sounds harmless apparently has a serious background. A monstrous argument is said to have erupted between the soccer star and his wife Magalí Aravena.

Aravena accuses Salvio of intentionally hitting her with the car around 1 a.m. on Thursday night. This is reported by the Spanish edition of the news channel CNN on his website. Accordingly, a marital dispute between the two escalated. Salvio’s wife caught him in the car with another woman. Then she wanted to confront him. The situation escalated.

According to the police report, she stood in front of the car. However, Salvio did not get out, but tried to push her away with the car. When that didn’t work, he continued to step on the gas – and hit Aravena in the process. According to the player’s wife, she suffered an abrasion on her leg and had to be treated by an emergency doctor.

Footballer denies the fact

The player himself denies the allegations. His lawyer said that the course of events would be clarified in court and his innocence would be proven. “We have enough witnesses who can prove his innocence,” he told Argentina football channel “TyC Sports“. CNN itself did not receive an answer to a question about the course of events.

The 32-year-old striker, who also plays for the Argentina national team, has been married to Aravena for ten years. The couple have two children. According to the wife, both had decided to separate a few days ago, she had moved out of the house they shared in the Puerto Madero district of Buenos Aires.

The Buenos Aires police have opened further investigations into the case. Salvio could face a trial for grievous bodily harm.
