Even if it’s almost half a year until the cinema release: Paramount Pictures has it released the first trailer for “Bob Marley: One Love”. The film about the reggae icon is scheduled to hit theaters on January 12, 2024.

“Where do you want to start?” – “At the beginning”, it says at the beginning of the trailer. Bob Marley was born in Jamaica in 1945 to a black mother and a white English officer father. He popularized Jamaican reggae around the world and became one of the first global stars to come from a developing country. Marley also worked for the political unity of his homeland and spread the values ​​of the Rastafarian religion.

Creation of “Exodus” in focus

According to director Reinaldo Marcus Green (41), “One Love” focuses on the creation of the album “Exodus”. Bob Marley recorded it in London in 1977. The musician had gone to England after he and his family were assassinated in December 1976. The trailer shows the dramatic event impressively. Only slightly injured, Marley performed at a peace concert organized by the Social Democratic Party two days after the assassination. Bob Marley later returned to his homeland. In 1980 he died as a result of cancer.

Kingsley Ben-Adir (37) embodies Bob Marley. The Brit has Caribbean roots, but his ancestors are not from Jamaica, but from Trinidad & Tobago. In “One Night in Miami” Ben-Adir played the African American civil rights activist Malcolm X (1925-1965). He can currently be seen in the Marvel series “Secret Invasion”.

Lashana Lynch (35), known from “James Bond: No Time to Die” and “The Woman King”, can be seen as Bob Marley’s wife Rita Marley (76). James Norton (37) is Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger (79), who has not yet appeared in the trailer.

Director Reinaldo Marcus Green already has experience with biopics. He staged “King Richard” about tennis father Richard Williams (81). Will Smith (54) won the Oscar for best actor for the title role he directed.
