The professional soccer player Jérôme Boateng also rejects the allegations made against him in the appeal proceedings at the Munich Regional Court. The defense said he denied “criminal activity” and otherwise did not want to comment on the matter. At the same time, she criticized that her client would be prejudiced by the reporting.
Fine of 1.8 million euros for assault
Boateng was sentenced to a fine of 1.8 million euros last year at the Munich district court for bodily harm. The court ruled that he hit his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his two daughters, during a vacation in the Caribbean in 2018. However, according to Boateng, the public prosecutor’s office and the alleged victim also appealed as a joint plaintiff.
Boateng now has another lawyer who is hoping for “new insights” into “essential issues”, as he announced in the run-up to the trial. While numerous press representatives are following the new edition, the interest of other visitors is manageable.
Boateng through the back door into the courtroom
Boateng entered the courtroom through the back door and followed the start of the trial largely unmoved. Shortly after the start, the hearing was interrupted again for almost an hour for a legal discussion among the lawyers: the chamber suggested that the proceedings be ended “as unproblematicly as possible and without great effort”, but “appropriately and appropriately”. According to the presiding judge, this could save everyone a “comprehensive, unpleasant procedure”.
Abbreviation of the procedure failed
But the court was unsuccessful in its efforts to shorten the process. Jérôme Boateng withdrew to consult his defenders, but the professional footballer then rejected the chamber’s proposal. He let it be known that he could not reconcile accepting the proposed solution with his conscience and with his “attitude towards the children”. Nor would it correspond to the status of the proceedings.
