Blessy: the GIGN deployed to try to control a man holed up in a house

Christmas day under high tension this Monday in Blessy (Pas-de-Calais). During the night from Sunday to Monday, a 38-year-old man, drunk, took refuge with a rifle in a house in the town of 900 inhabitants, refusing to surrender and firing at the gendarmes mobilized on the spot.

According to the gendarmerie, two gendarmes were slightly injured following these shots, and a third was more lightly injured. Heavily armed, men from the GIGN were deployed in rue desprès where the house is located, sometimes taking up positions in the gardens or neighboring houses.

According to the mayor of Blessy, Jean-Marc Furgerot, who is following the events, the madman is a former police officer, separated from his wife and daughter, who lives in the village with his parents. He is known in the town for his problems with alcohol and for his chaotic career. In the past, he attempted suicide. The chosen one also describes someone who can become violent once drunk, especially with his parents.

This Monday at 9:30 p.m., negotiations had still not made it possible to resolve the situation, and the gendarmes were preparing to spend the night on site.
