Around 6,000 criminal offenses have been recorded in Germany in connection with the war against Ukraine. Initially, most of the crimes were directed against Russia. But that has changed.

Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, the Federal Criminal Police Office in Germany has registered around 6,000 crimes related to the war. This is reported by the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” and refers to the authorities.

Insult, threat, assault, damage to property

The number includes offenses such as insults and threats as well as physical assaults. In addition, damage to property had been registered; this includes graffiti expressing sympathy for Russia or Ukraine. According to the report, crimes that are generally directed against the war are also included in the statistics.

Most acts in the first weeks of the war

While the crimes at the beginning of the war were mainly directed against Russia, that has changed in recent months: crimes with “anti-Ukrainian intentions” now predominate, as the report says. More than a third of the crimes had already been committed in the first 13 weeks of the war – i.e. between February 24 and the end of May 2022.
