Björn Höcke, parliamentary group leader of the AfD in Thuringia, has to apologize for using Nazi vocabulary in court responsible. A few days ago, the state parliament’s justice committee cleared the way for a possible indictment.

The Thuringian AfD leader Björn Höcke has to go to court over allegations of using Nazi vocabulary. The Halle regional court in Saxony-Anhalt admitted the Halle public prosecutor’s indictment for using the symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations to the main hearing, as the court announced on Wednesday. However, contrary to what the prosecution requested, the proceedings should not take place in the regional court, but in the Merseburg district court.

Höcke is said to have said “Everything for our homeland, everything for Saxony-Anhalt, everything for Germany” at an AfD election campaign event in Merseburg on May 29, 2021 at the end of his speech. He is said to have known that “Everything for Germany” was a forbidden slogan of the so-called Sturmabteilung (SA) of the NDSAP.

It is still unclear when Höcke will have to appear in court

The district court followed this assessment of the public prosecutor’s office. However, the court sees no reason to hear the matter before the regional court. Neither the expectation of punishment for Höcke justifies this, nor can the case be assumed to have any particular significance. Höcke’s level of fame alone is not suitable to give the case any particular significance.

Höcke cannot take action against the admission of the charges. On the other hand, the public prosecutor’s office can go to the Naumburg Higher Regional Court and file a complaint against the assignment to the district court. A date for a main hearing against the AfD right-wing extremist is not yet foreseeable.

The use of the slogan “Everything for Germany” led to police investigations against an AfD politician in Passau. The man is said to have used the banned slogan on an election poster for the Bavarian district elections on October 8th.
