The Thuringian AfD leader Björn Höcke is charged because he used a banned SA slogan at an event. Now he was looking for support on X – and of all people, its owner Elon Musk suddenly showed interest in the case.

Björn Höcke, the right-wing extremist leader of the AfD in Thuringia, will soon have to answer in court. Höcke is accused of using the banned SA slogan “Everything for Germany” at an election campaign event. Now the fascist is looking for support. At the weekend, Höcke wrote a post on the short message platform “X” in which he asked for support in his trial on April 18th. Höcke wrote his message in English – very unusual for him.

Björn Höcke is drumming up support for his process – Elon Musk is interested

Once again, Germany is a pioneer in the persecution of political opponents and the suppression of free expression, said Höcke. “I am accused of ‘misrepresenting’ an alleged quote in which I expressed my patriotism.” A sentence that can be interpreted to mean that Höcke knew exactly what he was saying.

He invites his followers to come to Halle to “get a first-hand picture of the situation of civil rights, democracy and the rule of law in Germany,” Höcke continues. His complaint almost got lost in the depths of the platform – until the owner, of all people, replied to his tweet: “What did you say?” asked Elon Musk, also in English.

Höcke then explained to him that he had used the slogan “Everything for our homeland, everything for Saxony-Anhalt, everything for Germany” at an event. He didn’t say why he was being charged. Musk then asked, “Why is this illegal?”

Users are surprised at Musk’s temporary interest

Hundreds of users explained that this was a forbidden proclamation from the Sturmabteilung (SA) of the National Socialist NSDAP and could be punished according to Section 86a of the Criminal Code. This apparently ended Musk’s interest in Höcke and his case. The Thuringian AfD leader then upped the ante and almost tearfully declared that every patriot in Germany was defamed as a Nazi, as reported by Spiegel, among others. This tweet is also no longer available.

Elon Musk has been writing on his platform for months against the alleged “woke movement”, repeatedly defending patriotism or love of homeland, often with a general demand for “freedom of expression”. In principle, Höcke’s case would also fit into this scheme.

For many users of the platform, however, the question arises in retrospect as to why X owner Elon Musk was shown a tweet from a Thuringian provincial politician and why he is interested in that one. Höcke’s office manager Robert Teske then posted a meme showing the cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants with the word “magic”, according to Spiegel.
