According to initial estimates, a fire in an old, abandoned hotel complex in Bischofsmais-Habischried (Regen district) caused damage of at least three and a half million euros. The fire in the large, former charm hotel broke out late on Saturday evening for reasons that have not yet been clarified, according to the police.
When the first emergency services arrived, meter-high flames were already coming out of the roof of the building, which borders directly on a forest. So far, however, it has been possible to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby trees. Nobody got hurt.
The former hotel has been left to its own devices since 2016 and has fallen into disrepair. However, such “lost places” attract visitors who are forbidden to look around on private property and enter abandoned buildings. Since a video about it was posted on YouTube in 2018, there have always been imitators. And other uninvited guests: rioters who aren’t interested in the more spooky charms of deserted places – they’d rather heave a pool table over a parapet.
