Taylor Swift celebrates her 34th birthday on December 13th. The US singer can look back on a very successful year.

Birthday boy Taylor Swift, the US star turns 34 on December 13th, has every reason to celebrate. Things couldn’t be going better for the pop singer at the moment. The musician, who was named “Person of the Year 2023” by “Time” magazine, has not only found her personal happiness with football star Travis Kelce (34), but has also been able to take her career to a new level in the past few months. These records finally secure her a place in the pop Olympus.

Tour and film

In November 2022, Swift announced her first tour since 2018. “The Eras Tour” is a “journey through the musical phases” of her career and songs from all of Swift’s studio albums can be heard. The tour began on March 17, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona and is scheduled to run until at least December 8, 2024 (Vancouver). As the “Washington Post” reports, “The Eras” tour is expected to bring in an incredible sum of 4.1 billion US dollars (approx. 3.9 billion euros) after its conclusion next year. Never before has an artist earned so much from a single tour.

The accompanying concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”, which has been in cinemas since October 13th, grossed a whopping 130 million US dollars (approx. 123 million euros) at the box office in the first few days. In the USA alone it is said to have been between 95 (approx. 90 million euros) and 97 million dollars (approx. 92 million euros). As Variety reported in late Novemberthe concert film had already grossed more than $250 million worldwide after seven weeks.

Streams

At the end of October it was announced that the singer had joined the billionaire club. At the beginning of December, “Variety” announced that its revenue via Spotify would already be more than $100 million (approx. €92 million) in 2023. Given the streaming numbers, this total is no surprise: Swift was able to record a total of 26.1 billion streams in the past few months, making her the first artist to land in first place among the most internationally streamed acts on the platform in 2023.

As the music streaming giant announced via X at the end of August, Swift was the first female artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million listeners per month. So far, only the Canadian singer The Weeknd (33), who reached 100 million streamers per month in February 2023, has achieved this.

Charts and Sales

Over the summer, Swift released “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” an expanded re-recording of the original album. With the new edition it went to number one in the US album charts and broke records, as the industry service “Billboard” reported. On the one hand, Taylor Swift is the first woman and the third artist ever to have four albums in the US album charts at the same time. Her older albums “Midnights”, “Lover” and “Folklore” were also in the top ten. She also achieved her twelfth number one album with “Speak Now”. Barbra Streisand (81) has so far held the record among all female artists with eleven number one albums.

At the end of October, Swift released her album “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”. The re-release comes nine years after the release of the original album and contains five previously unreleased tracks that did not make it onto the record in 2014. She also achieved record success with this work. It is her 13th number one album, from which according to “Billboard” 1.653 million units were sold in the first week, making it the best sales week for an album since Adele’s (35) “25” from 2015.

Awards

Swift’s successes were of course also reflected at musical award ceremonies this year. Not only was she the winner at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with nine awards and at the MTV Europe Music Awards with three awards. She won ten awards at the Billboard Music Awards, making her the most successful female artist of the evening and tying Drake as the most successful artist of all time at the Billboard Music Awards.

Thanks to the nomination of her hit “Anti-Hero” at the upcoming Grammy Awards 2024 in the “Song of the Year” category, she has already achieved something historic: never before has anyone been nominated for this prestigious category seven times. She previously shared the record with Paul McCartney (81) and Lionel Richie (74). In total, Swift could take home six Grammys next year. The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 4th in Los Angeles. Beyoncé (42) currently holds the record for the most Grammys as an individual artist with a total of 32 awards.
