From horror clown to crow? “It” star Bill Skarsgård is said to be playing the main character in the planned “The Crow” remake.

The new edition of “The Crow” from 1994, which has been in the planning for a long time, is taking concrete shape. According to the US industry portal “The Hollywood Reporter”that Bill Skarsgård (31) should slip into the role of the tragic main character. And the director and the planned start of shooting are already certain: Rupert Sanders (51, “Ghost in the Shell”) will capture the story on film, and the starting signal should be given in June of this year.

He already proved that Skarsgård can do remakes. The star from the famous Swedish acting family around father Stellan Skarsgård (70) is best known for his performance as the horror clown Pennywise in the remake of Stephen King’s (74) novel “It”. In both films from 2017 and 2019 he embodied the monster that feeds on the fear of its victims.

A doubly tragic story

It also gets dark in “The Crow”. The story by James O’Barr (62) was published as a graphic novel in 1989 and tells of the murder of a young couple. However, the man, Eric, awakens from the dead and, as “The Crow”, swears bloody revenge on the men who killed him and his great love.

The first film adaptation from 1994 made sad headlines. Leading actor Brandon Lee (1965-1993), like camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) in the accident on the “Rust” set, died during filming from a fatal shot from a prop pistol. Bruce Lee’s (1940-1973) son was only 28 years old. The film was eventually completed and released using the scenes with Lee that had already been shot.
