Big city safari in Berlin at night: Here the raccoon tap-dances!

As soon as dusk falls, wild creatures can be admired in Berlin: foxes, raccoons, even wild boars. What drives the animals into the city? And what do the nocturnal creatures tell us about us humans? On a foray with wildlife biologist and bestselling author Sophia Kimmig.

In a functional jacket and hiking boots we start into the Berlin night. We’d be hopeless cases in the elevator for the techno club bouncers. But we have an appointment with Sophia Kimmig, who knows where the really wild life is raging. She wants to lead us to animal beings that only appear in the dark – and that doesn’t mean the giant snake in front of Berghain. The 35-year-old behavioral biologist has written a book about nocturnal animals: “Living Night. From the Hidden Life of Animals.” It’s getting dark when we start the trail with her.
