Back to the roots: The new edition of “Big Brother” starts in March, with normal people instead of celebrities.

The “Big Brother” container opens its doors in just a month. On March 4, 2020, the veteran of reality TV will start its new round. From then on, 16 residents will spend 100 days together in a small space. This was announced by ProSiebenSat.1 Group announced in a press release.

The new edition of “Big Brother” will not be shown on television for the first time, but only on Joyn. On the ProSieben-Sat.1 Group’s streaming service, fans can follow the action live around the clock. In addition to the live stream, there will be weekly highlight shows, also on Joyn. They are moderated by Jochen Schropp (45), who most recently regularly presented “Celebrity Big Brother” on Sat.1.

Normalo season after a four-year break

“Celebrity Big Brother” recently overtook its older “Normalo” brother. The celebrity versions have been running non-stop every year since 2013. An edition with unknown participants was last seen in 2020. When the ratings didn’t develop as hoped, stars were brought in. This was also preceded by a four-year break. In 2000, “Big Brother” made TV history thanks to the participation of candidates like you and me.

The application deadline for candidates ended at the end of January. They were looking for people with “rough edges, from normal people to weird people,” as Executive Director Rainer Laux (62) recently revealed in an interview with the news agency spot on news. “We want to see new faces, not influencers or participants who are already known from countless TV shows,” he also said.

The winner who prevails on “Big Brother” after 100 days will win 100,000 euros.
