Xavi’s time on the FC Barcelona sidelines will soon end. The Catalans announced in the evening that the club icon would be stepping down from his position as coach at the end of the season. “I think the situation deserves a change of course and as a Culer I cannot allow this situation to happen”said Xavi at the press conference after the game against Villarreal FC (3:5).
Criticism of the coach has increased in recent weeks. Barça’s form crisis culminated today in the embarrassment against Villarreal. According to his statements, Xavi’s decision was made a few days ago. The former midfield maestro reacted to the critical voices of the press as follows: “Now everything will calm down and we can fight for the Champions League. At least you (the press, editor’s note) won’t kill me anymore with this decision.”
Xavi also emphasized that the players can now feel freer and that he is therefore hoping for a boost in performance. “This club needs a dynamic change. Leaving Barça is the best possible decision for everyone involved”the trainer explains his decision.
