Commander no longer in the White House after biting attacks
The biting attacks by Joe Biden’s German Shepherd have consequences: The naughty animal had to leave the White House. Commander is Biden’s second dog that attracts attention with rude behavior.
Commander, US President Joe Biden’s German Shepherd, is no longer at the White House after a series of bite attacks on security guards and other staff. First Lady Jill Biden’s spokeswoman, Elizabeth Alexander, announced this on Wednesday evening (local time).
The safety of the White House staff and those they protect every day is very important to the Bidens. They are still grateful for the patience and support of the Secret Service and everyone involved and are continuing to explore solutions, it said with regard to the dog. The commander is no longer on the White House grounds, while the next steps are being considered. Alexander left it open where the German Shepherd was sent.
Commander bit or otherwise attacked Secret Service personnel at least 10 times between October 2022 and January 2023, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security. In one case, a person affected had to go to the hospital.
Commander is Biden’s second dog that attracts attention with rude behavior. Previously, another German Shepherd named Major had been similarly naughty and aggressive. Major eventually sent the Bidens to stay with friends in Delaware after he lashed out at staff at the White House. Commander was given to Biden by his brother in December 2021.
Just a few hours before Commander’s alleged banishment was announced, government spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about a report that the dog had bitten again. She referred to the first lady’s office, which said that Commander and White House caretaker Dale Haney were just fooling around and nothing bad happened. A tourist took a photo of the two and forwarded it to a news media.
