Benedikt Doll has won two sprints in a row. This time no German made it onto the podium. Because no one gets through without errors. The best is Justus Strelow.

Biathlete Justus Strelow was the best German in the sprint at the home World Cup in Ruhpolding, finishing sixth. For the 27-year-old, it was the best sprint result of his career – if the Saxon had avoided his one mistake, he would have been on the podium for the second time this season.

“The one mistake annoys me, the last time I got through without it and I would have needed that today too. But I’m still very satisfied,” said Strelow.

After ten kilometers, Strelow was 33.8 seconds behind the victorious Norwegian Vetle Sjastad Christiansen (0 errors) and is within striking distance of the leader in the final pursuit on Sunday (2:45 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport).

Second place went to Tommaso Giacomel (1 error/+16.9 seconds) from Italy, third place went to Christiansen’s teammate Tarjei Bö (0/+20.1 seconds).

No DSV athlete gets through without a penalty

National coach Uros Velepec’s protégés achieved better placings at the shooting range; despite good conditions, none of the six DSV athletes made it through without a penalty. After two sprint victories in a row, former world champion Benedikt Doll had to settle for 19th place after two penalty laps. “I can’t fully explain the first mistake. There were a lot of missed shots in these conditions,” said the 33-year-old, who even received two penalties in the relay (2nd place).

Philipp Horn (2 errors/+ 49.2 seconds) came in eleventh, Philipp Nawrath (2/+ 54.2 seconds) landed in 14th place, directly followed by Johannes Kühn (1 error/+ 55.1 seconds). Roman Rees (3 errors/+ 1:48.5 minutes) didn’t get past 45th place.
