Nawrath wins in Östersund – Rees loses yellow jersey

Another victory for the German biathletes: Philipp Nawrath wins in Östersund. The Bavarian wins for the first time in his career. Teammate Roman Rees loses the yellow jersey.
The 30-year-old Bavarian won the sprint in Östersund without any shooting errors and could not be defeated in temperatures of 15 degrees below zero. Behind Nawrath, who surprisingly celebrated his first World Cup victory, the Norwegians Tarjei Bö and Vebjörn Sörum also took second and third place over ten kilometers without any shooting errors.
Nawrath’s teammate Roman Rees, however, lost the lead in the overall World Cup standings. The 30-year-old competed in the yellow jersey for the first time in his career, but was unable to repeat this appearance six days after his opening victory over 20 kilometers. “The power wasn’t there at the end. I did an unusually bad standing stage,” said Rees, who missed the top 50 after three penalties. The second best German was Johannes Kühn (1 mistake) in eighth place, Benedikt Doll (1) took tenth place.
At the end of the World Cup, the first pursuit races of the winter are on the program on Sunday (from 2 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport). Franziska Preuß is wearing the yellow jersey for the women for the first time. She secured the coveted item of clothing by finishing fourth in the sprint. The Norwegian Karoline Offigstad Knotten is also starting in yellow, as both are tied at the top on points and results after two races.
