Bhutan – Kingdom wants to welcome holidaymakers again soon – trip

After a long Corona break, the Kingdom of Bhutan will soon be welcoming regular holidaymakers again; these then have to pay a significantly higher tourist tax than before the pandemic. From September 23, foreign guests will be required to pay a sustainable development fee of US$200 per night. Previously, the fee was $65. The increase ensures that tourists are really helping the country, which absorbs more climate emissions than it emits, to develop sustainably. Bhutan lies between India and China. Its fewer than 800,000 inhabitants depend heavily on tourism. According to the United Nations, the country is one of the least developed countries in the world. In Bhutan, the philosophy is that the general well-being of the people is more important than economic growth.
