Niels Nauhauser, who has worked in consumer protection for 17 years, already knows the game. “It’s always the same,” he says. “In the past few years, jurisprudence has shown several times that banks are acting illegally and have thus collected money.” But not much happened after that. “Unfortunately, the legal consequence was never that they then voluntarily and quickly paid back too much money to their customers.” There will be “blocked, bricked up, stalled or simply said, the judgment does not apply to us”, says the financial expert of the consumer advice center Baden-Württemberg.
