Beware of the flowers you pick for your acacia donuts

With spring, fans of acacia flower donuts were able to reconnect with this delicacy. But the Bordeaux University Hospital, in an Instagram poststates that several cases of poisoning have been taken care of by the Bordeaux poison control center in recent weeks after ingesting flowers that resemble those of acacia trees but have a toxic character.

The laburnum, whose flower is yellow should not be ingested while the acacia, white flower, can be eaten. In its publication, the CHU specifies however that only the flowers of acacia are edible and not the leaves. Its consumption can lead to gastric disorders or even more serious symptoms.

In case of doubt, you must present your collection to a pharmacist or call the poison control centre.
