Better ways for pedestrians and cyclists in the west of Munich – Munich

Pedestrians and cyclists in the extreme west of Munich will soon have better and safer routes. At the request of the city, wide footpaths and cycle paths will be built at the Germering-Nord and Freiham-Mitte motorway junctions of the A99 ring road during bridge work that is due to take place in the near future. This was decided by the city council’s mobility committee.

The footpaths and cycle paths should be between 4.50 meters and 5.50 meters wide and lead over the ring road. The traffic authority has calculated that around 5,800 cyclists will be on the road there every day by 2035. The paths run along Bodenseestraße on the north side of the Germering-Nord junction and on both sides of the Freiham-Mitte junction.

The route improves the connection between the city and the surrounding area as well as to local recreation areas such as the Moosschwaige or the Freiham landscape park by connecting Freiham to Germering, Fürstenfeldbruck and Aubing. In the long term, the future Freiham underground station is also to be connected. The axis is also important for school transport between the educational campus in Freiham and Germering.

Between the Munich-Southwest motorway triangle and the Munich-West motorway junction, the ring road is being widened to six lanes. The conversion of the existing bridges is part of this project.
