Over the years, an impressive archive of embarrassing secrets of unknown people has accumulated. Friends, acquaintances, relatives or colleagues told these stories, of course with the advice to keep them to themselves. As soon as approval is given, they report. For example, from the married colleague who has been cheating on her husband with her boss for years in an adventurous way, or the acquaintance who has discovered a way that is as lucrative as it is fishy to fleece clients. Mostly they are exciting anecdotes, good topics of conversation, and the breach of loyalty caused by the betrayal does not weigh so heavily because the bearer of the new secret does not even know the culprit. But why don’t people keep to themselves the secrets of their friends, whose betrayals can lead to dire consequences?
