After the opening of the Berlinale, a film from Mexico will be in the running for the Golden Bear. The drama “Robe of Gems” tells the story of three women who get into trouble with drug trafficking.

Director Natalia López Gallardo had the idea for the film after conducting interviews with mothers whose children had disappeared in Mexico, she said on Friday in Berlin. You didn’t want to formulate a socio-political statement. “I wanted to be in some way close to this spiritual wound that I felt and I think all Mexicans carry.”

«Robe of Gems» is scheduled to premiere at the International Film Festival this afternoon. “Die Linie” by Ursula Meier will also be shown, according to the announcement a mother-daughter story.

Certain rules apply to going to the cinema due to the high number of infections. For example, only those who have already been vaccinated or have recovered have access. Anyone who has not yet had a booster vaccination also needs a test. You have to wear a mask in the cinema.
