Berlinale: Films about the War in Ukraine – Culture

From

Sean Penn is unlikely to use the words “lucky” when talking about February 24 of last year – except in the sense that he wasn’t at one of the places where rockets landed. For his film “Superpower”, which the US star wanted to present to the world public on Friday evening at the Berlinale, it was of course quite beneficial in terms of dramaturgy that Penn and his director Aaron Kaufman were shooting in Kiev anyway on the day of the Russian attack. They had already started working on a film about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2021. And now they were in the midst of the most dramatic hours. On the night of the attack, Penn conducted his first interview with Zelensky.
