At the Berlinale, Amanda Seyfried presents her new film, which is set in Stuttgart – and tells how her life has changed since she became a mother.

US actress Amanda Seyfried (“Mamma Mia”) has been getting other roles since becoming a mother. “It seems that since I gave birth I’ve only played mothers,” said the 38-year-old mother of two at the Berlinale press conference for her new film “Seven Veils.” “And that’s Hollywood for you.”

But there’s also something good about that: “I think the roles I’m getting have become much richer and more challenging in a way that I didn’t have earlier in my career.” The film celebrates its international premiere at the Berlinale on Thursday evening. The Canadian film was shown as part of the Toronto Film Festival last year.

The film is about a production of the opera “Salome” by Richard Strauss. Seyfried plays the theater director Jeanine in the lead role. The makers chose Stuttgart as the venue. “It had to be Stuttgart because the word sounds funny,” said director Atom Egoyan, who was jury president of the Berlinale 21 years ago. “And I’m not even kidding.”
