M. Night Shyamalan is the Jury President of the Berlinale in 2022. He has to rate these 18 films in the race for the Golden Bear.

The Berlin International Film Festival, or the Berlinale for short, takes place from February 10th to 20th. This year, “The Sixth Sense” director M. Night Shyamalan (51) will serve as president of the competition jury. Now the organizers have published the diverse field of participants. 18 films from 15 countries will compete for the Golden Bear and several Silver Bears in the competition of the 72nd edition of the event. Only one of them will not be the world premiere.

This is the case with the American contribution “Call Jane” with Elizabeth Banks (47), Sigourney Weaver (72) and Kate Mara (38). The drama is set to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in late January.

French productions are most frequently found in the competition: “Avec amour et acharnement” with Juliette Binoche (57), “Les passagers de la nuit” with Charlotte Gainsbourg (50) and “Peter von Kant”. The film by François Ozon (54) will also function as the opening film of this year’s Berlinale. Six other films are French co-productions.

Numerous co-productions

A completely German contribution will not be found in the field of participants in 2022. Instead, the co-productions “AEIOU – The Fast Alphabet of Love” (Germany/France) with Udo Kier (77), “Rimini” (Austria/France/Germany), “Drii Winter” (Switzerland/Germany) and “Rabiye Kurnaz against George W. Bush” (Germany/France).

The other films in the competition are: “Yin Ru Chen Yan” (China), “Un été comme ça” (Canada), “Un año, una noche” (Spain/France), “So-seol-ga-ui Yeong- hwa” (South Korea), “Robe of Gems” (Mexico/Argentina/USA), “Nana” (Indonesia), “Leonora addio” (Italy), “La ligne” (Switzerland/France/Belgium), “Everything Will Be Ok” (France/Cambodia) and “Alcarràs” (Spain/Italy).
