A woman dies, many people are injured. A year has passed since the rampage. The wounds are far from healed.

A year after the rampage on Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm, in which the teacher of a Hessian school class died, the victims were commemorated with a minute’s silence and a vigil.

The Verkehrsclub Deutschland and the Fachverband Fußverkehr Deutschland (Fuss eV) commemorated the crime on site. 16 people were injured, some critically. Fuss federal board member Roland Stimpel emphasized that those affected wanted a permanent commemoration at the scene of the crime.

A 30-year-old drove a car into pedestrian groups on June 8, 2022. A school class from Bad Arolsen in Hesse, who had made their final trip to Berlin, was particularly affected. Her 51-year-old teacher died.

Many of the students had returned to the capital, reported the mayor of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, Kirstin Bauch (Greens). But they wanted to commemorate in silence beyond the public vigil.

The driver has now been convicted of murder and attempted murder in 16 cases. The district court of Berlin has ordered the man to be placed permanently in a psychiatric hospital.
