On day three after the turn of the year, the balance is still being drawn up. The riots were too confusing and massive, especially in the capital. Far more officials than the day before were injured in Berlin: 41 police officers and 15 firefighters. A total of 145 people were arrested for arson, violations of the Explosives Act, breach of the peace or attacks on law enforcement officers and rescue workers. The number of those arrested was originally given as 159. There were double counts, said a police spokesman on Tuesday evening.
