The SPD, the Greens and the Left want to create a joint paper by Friday evening – as a basis for coalition negotiations, announced SPD top candidate Giffey. The FDP seems to be out of the running.
In the state of Berlin there is likely to be a new edition of the alliance of the SPD, the Greens and the Left. The SPD announced on Thursday that there would be a third exploratory round on Friday. The designated governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) said that they were going to this with the aim of creating a joint paper by the evening. On this basis, the SPD’s regional executive committee should then be proposed to start coalition negotiations.
Giffey said it was still unclear whether they could get some. The goal, however, is “that we have a result tomorrow evening” that everyone could “go along with”. Then coalition negotiations could begin in the middle of next week.
In the House of Representatives election on September 26th, the SPD and the Greens became the strongest and second strongest force and want to govern together again. The designated governing mayoress Giffey (SPD) had considered bringing the FDP on board as a third partner instead of the left. The Liberals now seem to be out of the running for the time being. The previous city hall chief in Berlin, Michael Müller (SPD), who had also ruled with the help of a red-green-red alliance, no longer ran for election, but ran successfully for the Bundestag.
