Berlin police arrest 37-year-old man for suspected infanticide

Berlin police arrested a 37-year-old man suspected of killing his three-month-old son late on Friday evening. He is to be brought before an investigating judge on Saturday.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of killing his three-month-old son in an apartment in Neu-Hohenschoenhausen. This was announced by the police and the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday morning.

He will be brought before an investigating judge on Saturday to issue an arrest warrant on charges of homicide, it said.

The 37-year-old is suspected of drowning his three-month-old son in a baby bath. According to the findings so far, the crime is said to have taken place on Friday afternoon in an apartment in the Neu-Hohenschönhausen district, in which the suspect, his wife and a five-year-old daughter are said to live. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the two were not in the apartment at the time of the crime.

The suspect is said to have brought the dead baby in the trunk of his car to a hospital in Marzahn-Hellersdorf after the crime. According to the public prosecutor’s office, on the way there he contacted his parents, who came along. According to the police and prosecutors, resuscitation of the baby in the clinic where the man was later arrested was unsuccessful.

The newspapers “BZ” and “Berliner Morgenpost” had reported that traces were secured in the man’s apartment. This information was not confirmed by the police and prosecutors.
