Berlin: Office makes an unusual Christmas present – panorama

2021 was not the year of the Berlin administration. The federal election was organized so chaotically that false ballot papers were displayed, telephones did not go and in the end the regional returning officer had to resign. The airport still doesn’t really work, and the best way to get appointments at the citizens’ office is to go online at three at night and try to book a time slot. However, there was also the administrative worker in Berlin who pulled out all the stops to help a married couple.

It all started in a Berlin playground. There a man at the swing saw something golden glitter in the sand: a wedding ring with two engraved names and a date. The finder is an entrepreneur and he immediately took action. He posted pictures of the ring on social media, posted a note in the playground, and gave interviews. Unsuccessful. Finally he sent an email to an office in Berlin. Those who live in the capital know that this is roughly the last option before hiring a dowser. Not so at a registry office in the west of Berlin. An employee sat down there one day before Christmas Eve, at a time when the administrative jargon used the phrase “Friday from one everyone does his own thing” and began to research. Found out that the date on the ring, while not fitting a marriage in her district, did match a different registry office. Passed the data on to this in the hope of “giving the couple a Christmas present”.

Who they are and why the wedding ring ended up in the sand is not yet known shortly after Christmas. But if the couple want the ring back, they’d better come to the registry office with a small thank you.
