He wants to do something good for those on the margins of society: Frank Zander gives gifts to the homeless during the Christmas season.

His traditional big Christmas dinner for Berlin homeless people is canceled again this year due to the Corona situation – but entertainer Frank Zander (79) is again on tour with a food truck.

Before Christmas he wants to distribute meals, gift bags and sleeping bags to those in need with celebrities like Franziska Giffey, Gregor Gysi and Inka Bause. Ragout of Brandenburg venison is served with Bohemian dumplings and red apple cabbage. A vaccination offer is also to be organized together with Caritas, as his son Marcus Zander announced on Monday.

Before the pandemic, Frank Zander celebrated with thousands of homeless people at the Hotel Estrel every year – in 2019 for the 25th time. Why is he doing this? He found this question “really annoying,” explained Zander. “In short, because I hope they all buy my CDs – no, to be honest – because I’ve always been very socially inclined and I know from my childhood what it feels like to live on little to nothing.” In addition, Christmas is a Christian festival. He is always on the side of the weaker, he is fine and he can give something away. “I would also like to be a bit of a role model for others who, in my opinion, could give something.”

Thanks to a donation from the Zanders, the work of the Caritas truck will be secured until April 2022, it said. There are 300 meals a day distributed there. The “Tagesspiegel” had previously reported on this year’s Christmas campaign.
