A man drives into a Berlin hospital with the corpse of a baby in his trunk. The doctors can do nothing more for the baby. On the spot, the investigators have a terrible suspicion.

A father is suspected of giving his three-month-old son in the east To have drowned Berlin in a baby bathtub. A magistrate issued an arrest warrant for murder on Saturday, the Berlin public prosecutor said on the online platform X, formerly Twitter. The 37-year-old man is now in custody. He was initially silent on the allegations.

The crime is said to have taken place on Friday afternoon in an apartment in the Neu-Hohenschönhausen district, where the suspect, his wife and a five-year-old daughter live. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the two were not in the apartment at the time of the crime.

The suspect is said to have brought the dead baby to a hospital in Marzahn-Hellersdorf in the trunk of his car after the crime. According to the public prosecutor’s office, on the way there he contacted his parents, who came along. According to the police and prosecutors, resuscitation of the baby in the clinic where the man was later arrested was unsuccessful. The child was autopsied on Saturday night.

The motive of the suspect is still unclear. At the weekend, the 37-year-old did not comment on the crime, a spokesman for the public prosecutor said on Sunday. The authority continues to investigate, question witnesses and inspect files. The spokesman did not comment on whether the family of the 37-year-old was also questioned for “tactical reasons”.

Again and again, babies are victims of acts of violence. It was not until the end of July that the Berlin public prosecutor’s office brought charges against a 26-year-old mother who is said to have killed her few-month-old daughter. The girl suffered numerous injuries, including a fractured skull. In March, a 22-year-old was charged in Berlin with allegedly shaking his five-week-old son upside down and causing life-threatening injuries.
