Berlin Animal Shelter: Visiting small and large character animals

The animal shelter in Berlin is the largest in Europe and is located in the Falkenberg district, around an hour on the S-Bahn east of the center of the city. The facility is 16 hectares in size, 190 employees look after the animals, and around 500 volunteer “petters” come regularly to pet and walk them. The home houses around 1,300 animals. This photo series shows some of them. You can read more about the work in the home and how difficult it is to adopt the animals here.
