Nazi nostalgics still haunt the Obersalzberg. After an attack by neo-Nazis last summer, an initiative was formed down in town that no longer wants to accept all of this.
Just recently a group like this marched again. “Young right-wing radicals, goose-stepping and on command,” says Bartl Wimmer. There were probably around 20 of them, from somewhere in the Benelux countries. These “young Nazis” didn’t go far past his house. The entrepreneur and local Green Party politician Wimmer lives on Obersalzberg, in one of the few houses that not only survived the forced conversion of the former village into Adolf Hitler’s ” Führer restricted area “, but also its dissolution after the end of the war. This will soon be the 79th anniversary, but the Obersalzberg has remained a magnet for Nazi tourists even after the mass Führer pilgrimages of the Nazi era. Many in Berchtesgaden have finally had enough of it.
