Berchtesgaden: cause of death of bearded vulture Wally probably clarified – Bavaria

It has been two months since a search team made up of bird experts from the Landesbund für Vogelschutz (LBV) and a mountain guide recovered bones, feathers, a GPS transmitter and a leg ring in an extremely steep and impassable rock gully in the Wetterstein Mountains. It was finally clear that Wally, the bearded vulture, was dead. And the LBV people around the biologist Toni Wegscheider puzzled over how it could be that an extremely fit bird of prey, which had flown hundreds of kilometers through the Alps just one day before its abrupt disappearance, suddenly died.
