Ben Affleck blames Jennifer Garner for his alcohol addiction – and causes outrage

In an interview, Ben Affleck spoke about his separation from Jennifer Garner – and indirectly blamed his ex for his alcohol addiction. Many fans react indignantly to the blame.
For a long time they were one of Hollywood’s dream couples: In 2005, Ben Affleck and his acting colleague Jennifer Garner married. The couple had three children together. But one day after their tenth wedding anniversary, the two announced their separation.
In an interview on “The Howard Stern Show” Affleck spoke unusually openly about his marriage – and confused with statements about his alcohol addiction. The reason he wanted to blame his ex: “One reason why I started drinking in the first place was that I felt trapped in my marriage,” said the 49-year-old on the radio show. “If we hadn’t broken up, we would have probably gotten each other’s throats and I’d probably still be drinking.”
He portrays his alcoholism as a kind of self-defense: “I thought, ‘I can’t just walk because of my kids, but I wasn’t happy, so what should I do?'” So he drank a bottle of scotch regularly and was on top of it Fell asleep couch.
Ben Affleck causes outrage
The two-time Oscar winner also had positive words for his ex. “I know that she is a good mother,” he said of her, among other things. But that Affleck Garner implicitly blames his alcohol addiction caused outrage on the net: “You blame your ex-wife for drinking? You were a drinker even before you married her,” wrote one user.
“Talking so badly about the mother of your children makes you a terrible father,” wrote another user. Many berated Affleck for his statements.
Particularly spicy: When Affleck went to a rehab clinic in 2018, it was his ex-wife Jennifer Garner who accompanied him there.
After separating from Garner, Affleck was initially in a relationship with the film producer Lindsay Shookus. Until the beginning of this year he was with the well-known actress Ana de Armas from the current James Bond film, before he revived the old romance with his former fiancé Jennifer Lopez in the spring.
