In 2019 she was officially certified to be the oldest person in the world. Japanese Kane Tanaka has died at the age of 119. The Japanese broadcaster NHK reported that the elderly had died in a hospital. Tanaka was born on January 2, 1903, the seventh of eight children—the year the Wright brothers first took off in a powered airplane. She married in 1922 and had four children, one of which she adopted. Together with her husband, she sold noodles and rice in a small shop. On her 117th birthday, it was said that she still got up at 6 a.m. every day and had a passion for math and chocolate. It was only in January that friends and relatives celebrated the 119th birthday of the long-lived Japanese woman. At the end of her life, she could no longer speak, but still communicated with those around her using gestures. With her death, the world’s oldest person is believed to be a 118-year-old French nun.
