“Being opposite Miss France is a funny counter-proposal”

Will Bigflo and Oli be the Mister France of the audiences? France 2 hopes so. Faced with TF1 and its steamroller that is the election of Miss France, the channel is programming this Saturday, at 9:10 p.m., the concert of the two Toulouse brothers, captured on Friday December 8 at the Paris La Défense Arena. A competition that amuses Oli, whom we met the day before the show, in the middle of rehearsals. But Audimat questions hardly interest him. Above all, he savors his success as an artist, which continues unabated. “Bigflo and I are the first to be surprised to continue to fill the rooms so much. We hadn’t released the album yet. [Les Autres c’est nous, paru en 2022] that the public was already there at Bercy, while for others, this room is a highlight. We are aware of how valuable it is, that people follow us, come see us, pay for their tickets. We cherish that and try to honor it every time. » This is what they intend to prove with this Parisian concert designed partly for TV.

Does this concert at the Paris La Défense Arena have a special flavor?

Yes, it’s a bit of the climax of this first part of the tour which was built in small venues. We almost retraced the evolution of a career. It’s quite symbolic. We left the Leather Goods (Parsi 20th), then went through rooms with 1,200 seats, then around forty Zéniths and we finished this tour with the stadiums, including the Paris La Défense Arena, the largest indoor hall in Europe , with 40,000 places. It’s a big meeting, especially in Paris, with a lot of journalists, artist friends and a large part of our audience.

Do you have any surprises planned?

There are quite a few, even in the set lists, we make changes until the end. Redouane Bougheraba comes to clash with us. The story is funny: he opened for us at the Zénith in 2018, so we come full circle on stage. It will also be a very elaborate show with almost ten musicians on stage, a brass band who will cause a big mess, effects that we will only do at this show, including a giant remote-controlled plane which will pass above the audience. It will be a great show which will crystallize everything we did on the last album.

The recording of the concert will be broadcast alongside the Miss France competition. What do you think of this competition?

I find it really funny, this artistic counter-proposal. There will be people who watch Miss France and skip, come across our concert. Some will discover and perhaps enter our universe in this way. But I admit that I haven’t thought about it much, it’s not a parameter that I have in mind. However, the sentence “Bigflo and Oui find themselves in front of Miss France on TV” is quite funny.

And at TF1, where you are coach of “The Voice” with Bigflo, does that make them laugh?

No idea, you’d have to ask them, but I imagine it doesn’t change much for them, it’s just programming stuff. We are very happy to have this show broadcast in prime time. It’s an opportunity, an open door to lots of people who don’t necessarily have the means or the opportunity to come see us in concert. That’s mostly how I see it. We’re expanding the room and adding a few sofas in France, it’s touching.

Does being filmed change anything in your attitude on stage?

Yes, because we’re going to wink a few times and, obviously, that puts a little pressure. But we’re not live, so that takes away some stress and allows us to work well. The approach is a bit original since we are going to film some interventions of us on the sofa where we will explain behind the scenes. This will not be a traditional concert recording. We wanted to find a way to take away the pressure of going live, to be able to make cuts [des coupes] on moments that work live but are less long on TV. This will be the optimal version of the concert.

Before returning last year with a new album, you took a two-year break. Looking back, do you say to yourself that you were right to do so?

Yes, it was the human thing to do. We managed to really take a step back and, since then, we have been able to savor it better. This morning [jeudi 7], when we arrived in the room, we were even more shocked than in 2019 because, at the time, our heads were so in the handlebars, Flo was quite tired, we were not at the top of the best at that time. that moment. Today, it’s as if we had the opportunity to relive a beautiful dream, that of filling one of the largest halls in Europe. It’s very nice to come back with a different mindset, more experience. We are more solid on the supports at many levels, even musical. We are serene, it’s healthy.

What would be your next dream?

Let it last already. We have an appointment in June with two stadiums in Toulouse, the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Lille, the new basketball stadium in Lyon. This is a first step. Afterwards, we’re going to get back into the studio, we’d like to go back to rap sources and offer a project for those who followed us at the beginning, return to more hip-hop sounds, a bit like what we were able to do in “Planète Rap” on Skyrock. We also want to write a film. It’s a project that we’ve had in mind for a long time. As for concerts, the final stop would be the Stade de France. But I just turned 27, I’m already super grateful to be able to do La Défense Arena and stadiums twice, it’s rare.

Would the film be a comedy, based on a scenario inspired by your lives?

We had started working on something about the power of writing. It’s a tribute to what changed our lives: being able to express feelings with words. It would be between comedy and drama. A bit like what we do in albums by going from a funny punchline to something deeper where we scratch into our identities. We will try to find that balance.
