The fact that the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) rounds up its delegation before the Olympic Games to provide everyone with the most important information does not sound particularly unusual at first. However, it is remarkable when the association feels compelled to hold a “human rights briefing” in view of the conditions in the host country or to invite a high-ranking IT security official to explain to the athletes how to protect themselves from state surveillance.
