The AfD has to look for a new chairman: Co-boss Meuthen no longer wants to run for the new election of the party executive in December. This emerges from a circular that he sent to the members of the party.

The long-time AfD co-chairman Meuthen is no longer available for the top post when the party executive committee is elected in December. That emerges from a circular that he sent to the members of the party, and that to the ARD capital studio is present.

Nothing is known about the details of the letter yet. However, Meuthen’s relationship with the two recently elected party leaders, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, is considered tense. Chrupalla is party chairman alongside Meuthen. He succeeded Alexander Gauland, who was no longer a candidate.

The AfD had achieved 10.3 percent in the federal election. This was 2.3 percentage points less than in the election four years earlier. Instead of the third strongest as before, the AfD is now only the fifth strongest force in parliament.
