Famous beer brewery publicly apologizes after worker pees in malt load

Well then, cheers! In China, a worker relieved himself in a truck with malt from the beer manufacturer Tsingtao – and has now been arrested. The brewery kowtowed to the public.

Authorities in Pingdu, eastern China, where Tsingtao’s “number three” brewery is located, said the driver of a sub-contractor had previously gotten into an argument with another worker when it came to cleaning leftover malt from the truck bed. The driver climbed into the cargo area, urinated there and was filmed by the other worker. He then published the video on social media.
Peeing scandal caused beer brewer’s share price to fall
The state-run China Daily newspaper reported on Friday that the brewery, which was opened by German settlers in 1903 during the colonial era, publicly apologized. The Oct. 19 incident highlighted transportation loopholes that the company wanted to correct, Tsingtao wrote. The video of the peeing worker sparked controversy on China’s social media. According to China Daily, the company’s shares briefly lost value following the stock market scandal.
Authorities said they arrested the driver a few days later on October 22 for damaging property. According to Tsingtao, the affected batch of malt was sealed to prevent it from entering the brewing process.
The state-owned beer brand from the eastern Chinese coastal city of Qingdao is one of the most famous and largest beer brands in China and is also available in German stores. According to its own information, the company has 60 breweries nationwide.
