The Netflix series “Beef” was one of the surprise successes of the streaming year 2023 and was praised for its funny, ironic and true-to-life production. Now, almost a year after the release of the first season, a second season is on the horizon.

The first season of the dark comedy series starring “The Walking Dead” actor Steven Yeun and stand-up comedian Ali Wong is about two drivers whose traffic dispute escalates so much that they not only hurt themselves, but also forget their entire social environment. The feud between Amy and Danny lasts for ten episodes – and ultimately ends in complete chaos.

Now the “beef” should continue, but with new main characters and a new storyline. As the industry magazine “Deadline” reports, Netflix is ​​currently busy putting together a new cast. Scripts and storylines are also already ready. The plot in season 2 will focus on two feuding couples, with Charles Melton (“Riverdale”) and Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”) as well as Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway playing the main roles. Promising prospects, the latter duo have already been seen successfully acting together in front of the camera in the Western romance “Brokeback Mountain” and the RomCom “Love and other Drugs – Side Effects Included”.

However, there will be no reunion with Yeun and Wong. Sung Jin told Elle: “We planned the series as a limited anthology, so the story is kind of over.” Although he would like to explore further how the dynamics between Danny and Amy develop, it is a self-contained narrative. Future seasons would instead focus on “several other disputes and other character types.”

However, Sung Lin did not reveal any more details about the plot yet. He told Rolling Stone that he has a “big general idea” that he can’t reveal yet, but has three seasons in mind. It is still unclear when the sequel will be available on Netflix. Since filming hasn’t started yet, new episodes can’t be expected until 2025 at the earliest. With the key dates and planned actors in mind, all that remains for now is anticipation – and watching the first season again. Because it’s so beautiful.
