Because of ray tracing: Jedi Survivor runs on PS5 and Xbox with 720p resolution

The graphics of the action game Star Wars Jedi Survivor, released at the end of April 2023, continue to cause discussions. The specialist magazine Digital Foundry has now found that the internally calculated resolution, which is dynamically adapted to what is happening, on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X is typically around 720p. That’s 1,280 x 720 pixels – the technical status from many years ago.








In performance mode, the graphics are upscaled to 1,440 pixels for output, and the frame rate is said to be 60 fps – which the game doesn’t always achieve. In quality mode, the output should be in 4K at 30 fps. Cutscenes should be calculated in both modes in 4K with a maximum frame rate of 30 fps.

According to Digital Foundry, the Xbox Series X can generate a slightly better image than the PS5. As the reason for the limitations that can be felt and seen on both consoles, the experts point to the always-on ray tracing, which is used for global illumination and for reflections; Raytracing is not set on the Series S.

The responsible development studio Respawn Entertainment had already announced in advance that there would be ray tracing on the mentioned consoles. The team has now commented on the technical problems several times and apologized for them.




For the console version, an update of around 1.17 GB on PS5 has been available since May 2, 2023 (Patch Notes) was released, which among other things improves performance. There are also bug fixes for certain positions and missions. More updates will follow later.

Jedi Survivor: Issues on certain PC configurations

A patch is already available for the PC version of Jedi Survivor. According to forums and social networks, this actually ensures a slightly better runtime behavior, but there are probably still bigger problems.


Just before the patch was released Respawn yourself on Twitter, among other things commented on the problems. Among other things, players who would use a relatively powerful GPU with a CPU that is not equally fast would have difficulties.

Even people with a PC that is actually designed for Windows 11, but on which Windows 10 is running, would have to reckon with stuttering or other problems.
