The new spokeswoman for the Green Youth, Heinrich, is under criticism for statements that are several years old. She distanced herself from it on Twitter. The 20-year-old is now withdrawing for a few days because of death threats.

The new federal spokeswoman for the Green Youth, Sarah-Lee Heinrich, receives death threats because of controversial earlier Twitter statements – and is temporarily withdrawing from the public.

“Sarah-Lee Heinrich is receiving tons of death threats right now,” said the Green Youth. “She will therefore only express herself and classify the events in the next few days – for the time being, the safety of Sarah-Lee Heinrich and her surroundings takes priority over interviews.”

Old tweets trigger criticism

There was a shit storm on social media against Heinrich over the weekend. It was about several years old tweets by today’s 20-year-olds. The entries from that time were redistributed by political opponents at the weekend.

The new federal spokeswoman for the Green Youth then wrote: “I just became aware of a tweet in which my account in 2015 commented ‘Heil’ under a tweet with a swastika.” You can’t remember ever posting such a tweet – but that doesn’t make it any better. “That was extremely stupid and inappropriate.”

Tweet “I’m really sorry”

Heinrich emphasized that she was part of an anti-fascist youth organization. “This tweet in no way reflects my position. I am really sorry to have ever posted such a tweet.” The tweet from that time has since been deleted. It is also criticized for the use of the term “disgusting white majority society”.

“What is deliberately removed from the screenshots of tweets: They are from 2014/2015,” criticized Heinrich. “I was 13/14 years old then.” She demanded: “Measure me and like to criticize me for my positions and my political work. I am not going to explain myself to everything that I once thought and said when I was 14, I do not ask anyone to do that.”

Heinrich and Timon Dzienus were elected as new federal spokesmen for the Green Youth on Saturday. The social science student Heinrich received 93.84 percent of the votes at the federal congress of the youth organization in Erfurt. Even before her statement on the “Heil” tweet, Heinrich had complained on Twitter that, since her election, the right had tried to pull shitstorms against her: “I guess they are jittery about a black, left-wing woman.”
