Beatles: On George Harrison’s 80th Birthday – Culture

A pot of elusive greens sits on the table, next to a bunch of tomatoes and a couple of Polaroid photos. The camera that spontaneously filmed all of this in the spring of 1990, in the kitchen of a recording studio in Bel Air, shakes a lot, but the incredible scene can be seen perfectly. Four men sit around the table, each with a guitar, all strumming Boy Scout camp style. And they sing together, grumpy and as off-key as one sounds just after breakfast. You can recognize the old cowboy hit “Ghost Riders In The Sky”: “Yippie-ya-yeeeah!” Right: Bob Dylan. Next to them – both with sunglasses – Tom Petty and the head of ELO and master producer Jeff Lynne. Far left, thick hair and white shirt, George Harrison. He was 47 then and at a new, late career high.
