Bearn ski resorts will open in advance

Finally, good news in the current context. The Béarn ski resorts of Gourette and of
La Pierre Saint Martin in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques will be able to open a few days in advance thanks to snow already there. After 20 months without skiing and without ski lifts due to the health crisis, they will welcome the first skiers from this Saturday, December 4. A season opening two weeks earlier than expected, reports
France Blue.

“There is 1.30 m of snow at the bottom of the slopes at Pierre Saint Martin, 1 m at Gourette and more than 2 m at the top,” explains Olivier Grosclaude, the boss of the public establishment of altitude stations. Despite a shortage of catering staff, all the ski lifts are operational. As a first step, the two stations are expected to remain open until December 8, unless further heavy snowfall occurs in the coming days. Other resorts in the Pyrenees could decide to anticipate their opening.
