Beamo: Withings presents health check for the home

The French manufacturer Withings presented the Beamo health device at the CES 2024 electronics trade fair. It is a handy measuring device with which users can determine a total of four health values. Beamo is intended for both private health checks and for use in telemedicine, where doctors can access the data.

The device is smaller than a standard smartphone and has an LED display on which the measurements are shown. According to Withings, it should be able to carry out a 4-in-1 health check within a minute.

Using two electrodes attached to the side, the device measures oxygen saturation and simultaneously performs a 1-channel ECG. The measurement is started by picking up Beamo.

Beamo can perform four health checks

Beamo measures the temperature using a sensor that is held against the temple. The infrared beam used to determine the temperature should be particularly narrow, which should make the measurement less sensitive to deviations due to the distance to the skin.

A piezo element is supposed to register sound waves and provide information about lung and heart activity. To do this, the device is held against the chest. According to Withings, there should be easy-to-understand instructions that will help even inexperienced users use Beamo correctly.

Based on the measured results, the device should be able to alert users to elevated temperatures and fever and cardiovascular problems including atrial fibrillation. The data obtained is automatically and wirelessly forwarded to a smartphone and managed by the Withings app. There, users can keep their own health records and also manage multiple users. The data can be shared with doctors, for example.

Beamo is scheduled to appear in June 2024 after CE approval and will cost 250 euros.
